RAWLINGS WEEK 34 NCSA DI TOP 20

Well it took  a while but we have a new #1 Team in the country and they are no strangers to the top spot when it means the most.  Virginia Tech takes over the #1 raking after winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament and our former #1 team, Wisconsin takes a big fall to #16 after going 0-2 in the Great Lakes Regional Tournament.

15 of the 16 NCSA DI World Series participants have a spot in the top 16 in the Rawlings Week 34 NCSA DI Top 20.  With the success they had at regionals, we have 6 newcomers to the Top 20.  Maryland, Navy, West Virginia, UNC, Vermont and Boise State are all dancing in the Top 20.

Only one more poll to go and whoever sits atop that one will be the 2024 NCSA DI National Champions!

REGIONALS DAY 1 COMPLETE

Day 1 of the NCSA Division I Regionals is in the books!  A lot of great softball was played we even crowned two Regional Champions early due to bad weather being anticipated for Sunday.

Michigan State defeated their arch rivals, Michigan State in the Great Lakes Regional Championship Game and Air Force defeated Iowa in the Mid-America Regional Championship Game.  Though Michigan State and Iowa came up short, they did punch their tickets to the 2024 NCSA DI World Series joining Michigan and Air Force.

In fact, 15 teams punched their tickets to the NCSA DI World Series after Day 1 of Regionals.  Illinois will face WVU in the Great American Regional Tournament.  Both the Fighting Illini and Mountaineers will compete in Columbus, GA for a National Championship.  Joining them are the back to back defending champs, Virginia Tech.  They will face the winner of the UNC versus NC State game tomorrow at 9am EST.  The winner of that game will also move onto the NCSA DI World Series.  Vermont and Sacred Heart both punched their tickets to the World Series.  They’ll face off at 10am tomorrow for the New England Regional Championship.  In the North Atlantic, Maryland will take on Navy at 10am EST.  Both the Terrapins and Midshipmen are headed to Columbus.  At-large bid, Boise State, punched their ticket to the World Series and will face Northern Arizona in the Pacific Regional Championship.  Lastly, Florida State will take on Georgia in the South Atlantic Championship Game at 10am.  Both programs are headed to the World Series.

RAWLINGS WEEK 33 NCSA DI TOP 20

As we have officially reached the postseason and Regional Tournaments kicking off this week, the Badgers from Wisconsin hold the top spot for the 8th consecutive Rawlings NCSA Division 1 Top 20 Poll.  Wisconsin finishes their regular season with an unblemished 12-0 conference record (14-1 overall).

But as they say, it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.  Only two more polls remain.  The Week 34 Poll after the conclusion of this weekends Regional Playoffs and the most important, the FINAL Top 20 of the 23/24 season.  Who will claim top spot on that one?  Will it be Wisconsin?  Will it be our back to back defending National Champions, Virginia Tech?  Who knows, but the road to the National Championship starts this weekend!

Stay tuned…
