AIR FORCE WINS ’24 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2024 NCSA Division I National Champions are the United States Air Force Academy Falcons!  They defeated Illinois twice in the Championship Round to capture their first ever NCSA National Championship!  In the winner take all game, Air Force hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 8th inning to win 2-1!

NCSA DI WS DOWN TO ITS FINAL 6

Phew…We’re all caught up and on schedule! A huge shoutout to the South Commons Softball Complex Grounds Crew for working tails off to get the fields playable today. Without their efforts, today couldn’t have happened!

We’re down to our final 6! University of Illinois Club Softball and Naval Academy Club Softball remain undefeated and will face off at 11:30am tomorrow. Before that game, we’ll see two more elimination games. Air Force Academy Softball will face off against Florida State Club Softball and Sacred Heart will take on Club Softball at NC State. First pitch for those games is at 10:00am EST.

OPENING ROUND OF DOUBLE ELIM HALTED

Mother Nature remains undefeated and unfortunately halted 4 opening round double elimination games.  Those games will be picked back up at 11am EST Saturday, May 5/18.  2nd round of double elimination will start at 11:30am followed by 3rd round play starting at 2:00 pm.  We will continue double elimination play at 4:30pm for the next round of games.

POOL PLAY DONE; DOUBLE ELIM STARTS TOMORROW AT 9AM

Pool play is done and the double elimination portion of the NCSA DI World Series starts tomorrow at 9am EST.  After Pool  Play, teams were re-seeded and the opening round matchups for the double elimination portion of the tournament are set.  Click HERE for pool play score updates and the updated bracket!

POOL PLAY BRACKET UPDATED

Due to potential weather impacting NCSA DI World Series games on Friday, all Pool Play games will take place Thursday, May 16th at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm at South Commons Softball Complex.  Further updates to the schedule will be announced once finalized, if necessary.  Click HERE to see the opening round pool play matchups.

DI REGIONALS COMPLETED

Sixteen teams officially punched their ticket to the 2024 NCSA Division I World Series after completion of the NCSA Division I Regionals Tournaments on Sunday.

The following teams won their Regional Championship, officially qualifying for the World Series.

  • Illinois – Great American Regional Champion
  • Michigan – Great Lakes Regional Champion
  • Virginia Tech – Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion
  • Air Force – Mid-America Regional Champion
  • Sacred Heart – New England Regional Champion
  • Maryland – North Atlantic Regional Champion
  • Northern Arizona – Pacific Regional Champion
  • Florida State – South Atlantic Regional Champion

Each Regional runner up also qualified for the NCSA DI World Series.  These teams earned World Series bids after finishing 2nd at their respective Regional Tournament.

  • West Virginia – Great American Runner Up
  • Michigan State – Great Lakes Runner Up
  • North Carolina – Mid-Atlantic Runner Up
  • Iowa – Mid-America Runner Up
  • Vermont – New England Runner Up
  • Navy – North Atlantic Runner Up
  • Boise State – Pacific Runner Up
  • Georgia – South Atlantic Runner Up

REGIONALS DAY 1 COMPLETE

Day 1 of the NCSA Division I Regionals is in the books!  A lot of great softball was played we even crowned two Regional Champions early due to bad weather being anticipated for Sunday.

Michigan State defeated their arch rivals, Michigan State in the Great Lakes Regional Championship Game and Air Force defeated Iowa in the Mid-America Regional Championship Game.  Though Michigan State and Iowa came up short, they did punch their tickets to the 2024 NCSA DI World Series joining Michigan and Air Force.

In fact, 15 teams punched their tickets to the NCSA DI World Series after Day 1 of Regionals.  Illinois will face WVU in the Great American Regional Tournament.  Both the Fighting Illini and Mountaineers will compete in Columbus, GA for a National Championship.  Joining them are the back to back defending champs, Virginia Tech.  They will face the winner of the UNC versus NC State game tomorrow at 9am EST.  The winner of that game will also move onto the NCSA DI World Series.  Vermont and Sacred Heart both punched their tickets to the World Series.  They’ll face off at 10am tomorrow for the New England Regional Championship.  In the North Atlantic, Maryland will take on Navy at 10am EST.  Both the Terrapins and Midshipmen are headed to Columbus.  At-large bid, Boise State, punched their ticket to the World Series and will face Northern Arizona in the Pacific Regional Championship.  Lastly, Florida State will take on Georgia in the South Atlantic Championship Game at 10am.  Both programs are headed to the World Series.

All in all, one more World Series spot is up for grabs in the Mid-Atlantic, and 6 regional championships will be decided tomorrow.

RAWLINGS FINAL NCSA TOP 20

Where they started is where they finished.  The 2022 NCSA World Series National Champions, the Virginia Tech Hokies began atop the preseason rankings and remained there for most of the season until Sacred Heart dethroned them for two straight months.  But after claiming the 2023 NCSA World Series, the Hokies are back where they began…the #1 Team in the NCSA sitting atop the RAWLINGS FINAL NCSA TOP 20!  They will hold that title until the 23-24 season begins.  Who is going to be the next #1 team in the county.  Stay tuned.  The 23-24 season will be here before you know it!

VT B2B NATIONAL CHAMPS

Virginia Tech takes home the 2023 NCSA World Series after defeating the University of Iowa 4-2 in the National Championship Game.  The Hokies become the first back to back champs since the U.S. Naval Academy in 2018 and 2019.

The NCSA World Series MVP was awarded to Alyssa Martin from the University of Iowa whose outstanding performance throughout the World Series surpassed all others.
